My Bloody Valentine 3-D

As an unspoken rule, I scoff at most remakes, or “re-imaginings,” if you must. Mostly because 9x outta ten, movies that were just fine the first time around, are being remade for the Cellphone Generation (Amityville Horror, The Fog, When a Stranger Calls, The Stepford Wives, etc.), with horrendous, diarrhea-inducing results.

However, I readily admit that I am looking forward to the latest “re-imagining” of one of my favorite 80′s slashers, My Bloody Valentine. I still fondly remember seeing the trailer on TV, back in 1980, and I’ve loved almost everything about it ever since: the movie poster, the premise, the killer’s uber-creepy look, the gruesome murders, the execution (no pun intended), etc. (the ‘almost’ comes because I wasn’t a fan of the banjo-riffic soundtrack). Crack du Jour

I like food. I especially like food with as little nutritional value as possible.

And that’s why my crack du jour is Nabisco’s Garden Harvest Toasted Chips. I picked these up in the “half price” bin at the gas station (classy!) and soon fell in love with them. They are thin, crisp and loaded with the vegetable goodness that is deliciously nostalgic to Nabisco’s ORIGINAL Vegetable Thins. Not exact, but close. I’ll still never forgive them for dumping their classics vegetable-shaped crackers (onions, bell peppers, celery stalks) for their new retarded reincarnation. AND the groovy thing I just learned is that in addition to Apple Cinnamon and Tomato Basil, they also make a *drumroll* Banana chip version! OMG, that sounds REALLY good to me. Perhaps even crushed up on a peanut butter sammich? Oh yeaaaaah.

And secondly, while perusing the Valentine goodies at Walgreen’s the other day, I noticed they had in their 3 for $3 candy bin, these new Chewy Atomic Fireballs. I got some (along with a few boxes of Swedish Fish). They are SO good! In fact, I’m heading out to pick up another batch to take to the movies tomorrow night. *sneakeh!* Seek them out. They are definitely worth it!

This weekend a friend came over and we hung out at my house. He asked if he could choose a game from my game closet, so I said “go for it.” He chose the Ouija board, which I haven’t played seriously since the mid -late 80′s when I used to play with my mom and grandmother. It was always a lot of fun and consistently accurate.

I realize there are some people out there that subscribe to different theories as to how the board actually works. After doing a little reading (post playing with my friend), there are 2 schools of thought: (more…)

Stories for Men by America’s Most Virile Writers © 1936

I bought this at the little used book store down the street from my house. Kinda pricey, but it’s hardcover and I really wanted it. Naturally, being over 70 years old, I was unable to find a synopsis for this book online. And since the book itself has no dust jacket (it’s fairly small, measuring in around a diminutive 4×6 inches), I don’t have one to give you. The book title is pretty self-explanatory; it is what it is: Stories for Men. Containing 13 stories by various authors, the book is more about high adventure than naughty nymphos. An example of one of the “virile” writers would be William Faulkner and his story about an American aviator in World War I who befriends a British torpedo-boat pilot and comes to see the war from a perspective that’s less remote and abstract than that of the one he had as an aerial bomber (Turn About). What a Way to Start ’09

Okay, I realize this may be counter productive when it comes to getting the word out to my regular reader(s) where I am now, but I just pulled a Secret Squirrel: I deleted the post I put on my original blog (Blogger), with my new blog URL, because I kinda like that I am incognito once again. Sure, I’m listed in search engines and I can always go back and repost, but for now I can blog with wild, reckless abandon.

And that brings me to discuss my monumental New Year’s Eve/Day. If you’ve read my blog in the recent past, you know about the ‘just friends’ relationship I have with a particular friend. You also know that even though I think I’d like for it to be a little more than a friendship, that I’m realistic and realize that he doesn’t have those kind of feelings for me. *Fyi: From here on out, I will simply refer to him as ‘P.’

So, now that you’re caught up, back to telling you about the best New Year’s I’ve had in a long, long time, if not ever. (more…)

Well, I kinda-sorta found the key to editing my template. Apparently you have to find a template that has a “customizable header.” It’ll do for now at least. I’m still not sure what’s going on with the Flickr! widget and I never seem to know how to add my own ‘RSS Feed’, etc. etc. Maybe the key is to keep it simple. I suppose I can always tweak it as I go along. I guess I’m just retentive in the sense that I like things to be the way I want them NOW as opposed to later.

I’m gonna work on some new blog posts today, so hopefully I can at least get back to blogging and put the aesthetics on the back burner.
