To Dye For

P came over the other night and we dyed Easter eggs. It was fun, but I miss the Paas I grew up with (they looked more like the image above). Actually, I have fond memories of several different types of egg dyeing experiences: I remember when we used to just use good old food coloring and some vinegar to dye eggs with. That was a lot of fun, plus it was fun to make all your colors from the instructions printed on the box of food coloring: _ drops of red + _ drops of yellow= orange…_ drops of blue + _ drops of red= purple, etc.

I also distinctly remember a VERY groovy set of Easter egg dye we bought one year: the colors came in little glass vials with bunny head stoppers in shades of whatever color the dye was: i.e. pink, yellow, green, etc. They were beautiful. Wish I could find those again. I’d buy them in a heartbeat!

I “went all out” and bought the PaasDEGGorating Party” kit. It had dye, glitter, glue, stickers, stamps, stencils, beads (gimme a break), etc. It was kinda fun, but we didn’t use half of it. And even though the characters are still the same (Rabbit, Duck, Turtle, Lamb, etc.), they just don’t quite look as adorably pop culture as they did in the 80′s. They’re a little too three-dimentional now (re: shadows, texture, etc.). I miss the 80′s style. Still, it was fun to be dying eggs with P, even though none of mine turned out worth a crap. Oh well, that’s why God invented deviled eggs. They’re chilling in the fridge as we speak. LOL!

What happened to ther 12th egg?

I dyed eggs with Noah, 3 dozen. Of course we used Paas! Egg salad for a week!

I remember the bunny-headed bottles, too!
I think those were the ones that the dye floated on the water. You would float a few different colors, and swirl it, and slowly dip in the egg so the floated colors stuck to it. It ended up looking very tie-dyed and trippy.
Does that ring a bell?
