• Ironside: Season1 © 1967
Comments: I love me some Raymond Burr. He was still a handsome man when he was older, but have you seen pictures of him when he was younger? YOW-ZUH! I realize that the (naturally) dark circles under his eyes can be a turn off for some, but I like ‘em. I think maybe that’s because similar traits seem to run in my mom’s side of the family. Maybe that’s part of the appeal of Vince Vaughn for me as well.
• Vibes © 1988
Comments: I friggin’ LOVE this movie! So, when it finally got a long overdue DVD release, I was more than a little excited. I showed it to P and was pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed it. I never know with him sometimes. Though there is just a 6 year age difference between us, he sometimes gets a little too caught up in what he considers the “cheesiness” factor. Come to think of it, I think he drifted off for the last 15 minutes of the movie. Oh well, I’m still excited it’s on DVD. One of my favorite 80′s movies!
• Koyaanisqatsi © 1982
Comments: I really don’t know how to explain this “movie” to people when I try to tell them how much I like it. From what I’ve read, apparently it’s part of a trilogy, the others being Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi. I must now seek those out as well. If you’d like to see what it’s all about or to even see the film in its entirety, you can watch it (for free) on YouTube here!

Comments Though I am already avidly collecting the Woody Woodpecker boxsets, this particular DVD will forever have a special place in my heart. I bought it at…ech…Wal-Mart with N when we went home for me to begin cleaning out my parent’s home. We (P, N & I) watched it and laughed back at the hotel room and I woke up to it one morning. Memories. It’s really a nice little collection for an affordable price. LOTS of cartoons, even Chilly Willy ones!

Comments: I am not a big fan of Criterion Collection DVDs, mostly because I think it encourages snobbish movie elitism among self-proclaimed, otherwise NOT cinema-savvy, cinemaphiles. Don’t get me wrong, Criterion does offer some interesting and good choices in films (otherwise not available), but it ain’t all gold, trust me. Just because a film is rare, foreign, experimental and/or “controversial,” doesn’t mean it’s worth watching. Plus, I find it annoying that these people (at Criterion) act like they are restoring these movies for posterity (for “true” lovers of cinema) then sell their movies at incredibly inflated prices (no doubt in order to separate themselves from those other ‘inferior’ films). Like I said, I rarely buy them.
However, this one was worth every penny ($27). There are 3 discs as well as a nice little book inside the DVD case. The DVDs contain all the documentaries/cartoons/etc. that Jean Panlevé made during his career. Absolutely fascinating! P and I could not tear ourselves away from it. Seriously. We sat down for a minute and ended up watching the entirety of Disc 1. I must admit though, the vampire bat and mollusk shorts made me a little nauseous. Highly recommended if you get the chance!

Comments: Why do I have such a fondness for this movie? On some levels it’s sooooo bad. On others, it’s sooooo good (entertaining). The only thing it was ever really known for was the controversy over seeing (a fleeting glimpse) of Bruce Willis’ penis. Schmeh. So what? I mean, he’s cute in the movie, but whatever. I guess I’m just a sucker for those suspense thrillers I flocked to when I was growing up (which this is such a throwback to): Someone to Watch Over Me, Bedroom Window, Still of the Night, Shattered, No Way Out (fond fond memories of that movie poster, what with Kevin Costner’s nipple up close and personal….sigh), Pacific Heights, Guilty as Sin, etc.
• Morituri © 1965
• That’s Entertainment, Part II © 1976
• The Killer Shrews/The Giant Gila Monster: In Color © 1959
• Halloween Strobe Light © 2006
Comments: I bought this in as ‘clearance’ up at work and have yet to check it out, but it seems like a fun idea. It’s basically a strobe light in DVD format (complete with ‘spooky’ sounds). I’d probably just mute it and turn it on at a party.
• Don’t Open the Door/Don’t Look in the Basement © 1975/1973
• Laid to Rest © 2009
Comments: I want to see this movie sooo bad, but time just doesn’t permit at the moment. I saw the trailer for it and it looks GREAT! My friend N went to the Texas Frightmare Weekend again this year and got me the movie poster signed by the entire cast! I was particularly excited that Johnathon Schaech signed it!!! *squeal!* I LOVE him. And apparently, that’s what N told him when he was signing it…that I “really” LIKE him…so he added a heart along with his signature. *sigh*

Comments: Even though I own a lot of these movies already, AND even though I realize that a lot of them are probably not the best quality (esp. since most have not been remastered in any way, either audio or video-wise), there ARE quite a few I haven’t seen, and since this set is so nice and compact (slim cases), how could I resist!?

• Dreamscape © 1984
• The New Adventures of Old Christine: Season 2 © 2007
• …And God Spoke © 1993
Comments: The one and only reason I bought this movie: Lou Ferrigno. I’ve been wanting this DVD forever and kept thinking I would run into it at work, but it’s just never happened. And that’s why I finally gave in and ordered it from Amazon.com. Worth every penny. Lou looks white HOT.

Comments: More often than not, P and I end up showing each other movies that we have in our DVD collections. This time around, P wanted us to watch a movie neither of us have seen, so I picked out two new releases from work and let him choose between them: this was his choice. And what a great choice! It was nerve-racking! Seriously. If you could’ve been a fly on the wall. observing us while we were watching it, you’d have laughed outloud. We were both on my couch, squirming, recoiling, yelling. It was hilarious. There were moments where we were both so caught by surprise by what happened in the movie that we both yelled out or got creeped out. How could I not buy this movie, what with all the hilarious memories attached? Check it out, but be warned, you WILL squirm. Guaranteed.
• Bewitched: Season 7 © 1970
Comments: I love me some Uncle Arthur (Paul Lynde) and also Samantha’s cousin (and alter-ego) Serena. Lots of episodes in this season that I have fond memories of watching during my formative years.
• Woodchipper Massacre © 1988
Comments: I’ve never seen (or heard) of this movie, but it looks so awful I couldn’t resist getting it.
• Body and Soul © 1947
• Sometimes They Come Back © 1991
Comments: Again, never seen this one, but everyone seems to like it. Besides, with Robert Rusler in it, how could I go wrong? I remember seeing him in Weird Science and thinking “God, he’s beautiful.” Maybe that’s why I had a crush on my camp bunkmate, Greg Hershey. They both has that darkly-tanned svelte bod. ROWR!
• The Warriors © 1979
Comments: Again, never seen it but everyone seems to love it. Besides, N let me borrow his Warriors PS2 game and it’s a lot of fun, so I figure the movie can’t be too far off.

Comments: Found this one in the discount bin. Never got around to seeing the made-for-TV version, but I really like Angela Bettis, and I know it will NEVER top the Brian DePalma version, but looks interesting just the same.
• Gay Sex in the 70′s [documentary] © 2005
Comments: Yet another DVD I stumbled upon this one in the ‘no cover art’ discount bin. Sounds promising. Always love the gay 70′s era…pre-AIDS.
