Obituary

I had a busy day yesterday, writing the obituary, designing the funeral program’s contents and talking to the Reverend officiating over the service about details of the eulogy. When it came time to choose an Alzheimer’s organization to put in the obituary, I took the time to research the HUGE list of Alzheimer’s organizations out there, and due to their outstanding record at the Better Business Bureau I chose the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Their organization had the highest donation to research ratio than any of the others. In addition, I chose the opening and ending songs (Here’s to Life by Shirley Horn and Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Jevetta Steele) for the funeral service.

The obituary printed today and the service is tomorrow morning. Everyone keeps telling me how ‘well’ I’m handling this. All this time it’s been something that you hear about happening to other people. You know it will inevitably happen to you someday, but now that it has, it just doesn’t seem real. I dread tomorrow, because I think it will become all too real. I’m blessed to have a close-knit group of friends who will be attending with me, which helps more than they’ll ever know. I don’t feel worthy of such goodness, but I’m going to take it anyway. And speaking of, those of you who have expressed your condolences, I thank you. It means a lot to me. Your thoughtfulness is sincerely appreciated. *You can click on the obituary for more detail. Last name has been obscured for privacy reasons.
