Milton the Toaster

I recently bought some vintage-style Tony the Tiger cereal bowls, so I thought I would look online for a picture to show you, but was unable to find one. However, while looking for a reference photo, I ran across this GREAT set of Milton the Toaster kitchen items. Here’s a little background excerpt, via Wikipedia: “Kellogg’s rushed their new pastry into the market very quickly and its name came from one of the hottest things at the time: Pop Art which Andy Warhol made a household name with his giant soup cans and Brillo boxes. Pop-Tarts advertised its new product by an animated toaster named Milton and could not keep the shelves stocked because it became so popular.

I LOVE Milton! He was introduced in the 70’s and I remember seeing him in commercials and advertisements. I always thought he was such a great character, and one of the reasons why I think I love toaster/toast imagery so much. I WANT that Milton cookie jar! Now if I could only FIND it! Grrrrr!

And while we’re on the topic, I found it fascinating how many different flavors of Pop Tarts (originally called ‘Country Squares!) there have been! (Personally, my favorites are Strawberry, Apple Strudel and S’mores. All frosted, of course. It’s gotta have frosting or it’s just not a Pop Tart!) I have a Milton pin. I can’t remember where it came from, if it was a mail-in offer or a pack-in or what, but he’s the happiest little toaster ever. That cookie jar looks great, but it’d make me want Pop-Tarts every time I looked at it. I guess that’s the idea.

There were special Star Wars Pop-Tarts called LavaBerry released in 2005, too. I made fun of them but they weren’t bad at all.
