I can’t sleep these days. Wait, I take that back; I CAN sleep, but I do it during the day now, and then stay up all night. I’m not sure what spurred this on, but it’s been going on for a week and a half now. It’s not really a big deal, because, let’s face it, what else do I have to do?
This post is gonna be all over the map, so get out your compass. First off, I was in the grocery store the other night and She Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby came on and then Miss You Much by Janet Jackson was playing on the outside speakers as I loaded my groceries into the car. It got me to thinking (not the first time I’ve thought this way, just the first time I’ve blogged about it) how surreal it is that THIS is what passes for grocery store music these days. I still remember the days when “muzak” was all the rage; at times I’d find myself drifting off, while I walked up and down the aisles, imaging myself in a large sunhat and garden dress, a la the final scene of The Stepford Wives (the 1975 original, not that abortion they made in 2004). I also find it interesting that we’re (‘Gen X’) the demographic. It’s not like it’s anything new, they’ve been using popular 80′s music for years now, but I guess I’m so used to it that I sometimes forget that I’m getting older. (more…)
