Dark Passage by David Goodis © 1999
Synopsis: Vincent Parry, sentenced to life in San Quentin for the murder of his wife, escapes in an attempt to prove his innocence by discovering just who framed him. Harbored by a woman he doesn’t trust, a fugitive from justice in the depths of despair, Parry is forced to take a nightmarish gamble in an attempt to hide his identity from the Law… *Made into a feature film by Warner Bros., starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Agnes Moorehead, in 1947.
Comments: Dark Passage is my favorite Humphrey Bogart movie and definitely in my top ten Film Noir favorites. I was excited to find this book because it costs a small fortune online (most likely because it is an import), PLUS it’s the first (and only) time the book has had a rerelease since it’s original 1946 printing. It’s one of those great ‘escape’-type reads that goes quicker than you want it to. I really enjoyed the book because it contained several scenes that didn’t make it to the film adaption. Highly recommended, if you can find it. (more…)
