Well, I got up bright and early Saturday morning so that I could be at P’s house by 8:30. He was taking his truck to a nearby town to get some work done to it and asked me to come with. I didn’t have anything better to do, and was looking forward to the prospect of finding new things to photograph + P and I always have a good time, however mundane the activity.

P asked me to come over early so that we could have coffee, so I arrived at 8:45 (on the dot) and after saying ‘hi’ to his parents, sat down in the dining room for some coffee and freshly-baked cinnamon toast a la P.

We arrived in Saginaw a little after 10am, and dropped of P’s truck. We’d passed an antique mall on the way, and needless to say, I wanted to go there. I found some GREAT stuff, both for me (who are we kidding, MOSTLY for me) and some for the store (2 vintage ceramic fish wall pockets/planters). I bought some LPs, some Pity Kitty pictures from the seventies and an Addams Family lunchbox that I have ALWAYS wanted. P found some vintage Valentines.

We then went to take pictures of some MASSIVE old grain silos near the railroad tracks, and then had lunch at a restaurant across the street from the tracks, called Texas Pit Bar-B-Q. P had the brisket sandwich, I opted for the turkey. Oh my god, it was SO good. I would have to say it rivaled my local favorite, David’s BBQ. Definitely recommend it!

After lunch, we stopped at Walgreen’s so that P could use the ATM, and then P called the mechanic. The mechanic said he was running behind and that it would be around 3 or 3:30 before he was done: we had a lot more time to kill. P directed me to this great little fresh/saltwater fish store, called Keller Farms, that was housed in an old home. The place was GREAT and I could see why P liked it so much. They had lots of beautiful fish, tons of accessories for your aquarium and even a large selection of live plants in the back!

After leaving the fish store, we went to a giant dollar store and each found a few things we couldn’t live without… primarily a tape measure with all the fractions that I never know otherwise. We then went to Big Lots, where I picked up a book, a couple of DVDs and some GREAT ceramic bowls (I am a {cereal, noodle} bowl FIEND and these were in 3 of my favorite colors: green, orange and brown {shown}. I love them, esp. when they are deep). P found a computer game and some socks. THEN we stopped by a Goodwill, where P found a GREAT sweater (I’m so jealous that he can find stuff that fits him at thrift stores!) and I bought him an awesome T-shirt with Jesus on it that says: Jesus Is My Homeboy. I pitched it in his lap once we got back to the car and said “Happy Valentine’s Day.” He loved it.

By this time, it was time to start heading back to the mechanic’s shop. Once there, I made a pit stop at the bathroom and took a picture of their sexy wall calendar. We left and decided to rendezvous at my house at 6, so I could take P to the ginormous Half Price Books in Dallas.

I think P assumed I was exaggerating about just how big the Dallas location is. It’s like a labyrinth! I found a handful of books and LOADS of CDs. P also found some books. After we left, we went to Tony’s (here in Arlington) and had dinner. Good times.
