Rear Window Memorial

I‘ve noticed several trends, in regards to cars: car nuts, Calvin, of Calvin & Hobbes fame, peeing on whatever brand of car/truck you AREN’T driving, etc. I’ve even gotten (somewhat) used to retarded bumper stickers, some of which I have no idea what the message is the driver is trying to convey. For example, I saw one yesterday with a Darwin fish symbol, with feet, upside down and next to it, it said: “Fish don’t have feet and Jesus still lives!” (WTF? I don’t get it) -or- (my favorite) “If you can read this, you weren’t aborted.” Duh. Ah, Texas. Someone somewhere is making a mint off these idiots.

But I digress. Back to the point of this post. Most recently I’ve noticed a lot of rear car windshields doing double-duty (doodie) as makeshift tombstones, which personally I find both tacky and tragic. Is your car windshield really the venue for grief? Why would you want a constant reminder with you at all times? Do you get the attention you’re obviously craving? Whatever happened to donating a tree, bench, plaque, etc. in the name of your dearly departed?

Having (relatively) recently lost my mother, the last thing I’d want is a vinyl sticker on my mode of transportation, there to remind me every time I get in, that she’s dead. Nor would I want to answer any questions curious passers-by may have (nor accept their condolence). This isn’t to say that one should just up and forget the person and/or deny their existence, but is this really the only avenue you could come up with to honor/grieve? It seems very public and therefore loses any sense of intimacy and/or pride. Surely there’s a more tactful way of honoring your loved one. Color me confused.

Color me confused too. I’ve never seen anything like that! I don’t like it. Too depressing. You have seen this sort of thing several times? I hope this custom doesn’t spread to southern Illinois.
