- Corey Haim’s Untimely Death- Yes, I, unlike so many others, were really not all that surprised to hear the manner in which he passed away. And even though I wasn’t surprised he OD’ed, it is sad, as he was a collective part of my childhood pop culture (Silver Bullet, Lucas, The Lost Boys). However, I must be one of the few gay men out there who just never got the appeal. I can see how girls would find him cute (it’s an appeal that spans generations: the “non-threatening boy” fixation) and I suppose I can see how my gay contemporaries found him appealing too, though I never did. I found him too (physically) boyish and too femmy. R.I.P.
- The Oscars- I watched the Oscars, in their entirety, for the first time in nearly 2 decades. I’m generally NOT an awards show person. At all. And even though I love movies, I’ve never been very interested in most of the ones that win awards, thus making them ‘mandatory viewing.’ This year I was invited over to a friend’s house to watch them and we made an evening out of it. We filled out ballots (wagering $5 each) had snacks and had our own running commentary on the actors, actresses et al. It was a lot of fun.

Here are my observations:

• The three hottest guys there were Jake Gyllenhaal (I couldn’t take my eyes off him!), Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Lautner (in that order). Taylor’s got a groovy bod, great smile and cute face…but I have a feeling that nose is gonna cease being ‘cute’ as he gets older. Especially if it turns out to be true that a man’s ears and nose continue to grow as they get older. At the very least, he may eventually require surgery for a deviated septum.

- I still have no interest in most of the movies that were nominated and/or won awards.
- Meryl Streep never ceases to be cool. Wish I knew her in real life. She seems like a very cool person.
- WTF was with 90% of the women’s hair? It looked like they did their own hair: LOADS of fly-away split ends action going on. Shaaaabby. Sarah Jessica Parker, whom I like, had a hair loaf that would’ve made Fleischmann jealous.
- I like Sandra Bullock as much as the next person and sure, she’s cornered the market on cute et al, but how the hell did she win ‘Best Actress?’ She is not best actress material. Color be baffled.

- And speaking of, I never thought I would see the day that Mo’ Treats would win anything other than an eating contest. Sorry, NOT a fan. She got lucky, pure and simple.

• Food
- I tried the new Lay’s Tangy Carolina BBQ chips. No thanks. Stick with the regular BBQ. WORLDS better. Ended up throwing the rest of the bag away.
- I love all things pomegranate…or so I thought. Picked up some Pomegranate Sherbet from Braum’s: AWFUL. Again, it went right into the trash. What a waste of money.
- Mission’s Garden Spinach Herb Wraps make one heckuva sandwich! Would rather have that than boring old bread any day. DELICIOUS!
- Though we no longer have a Wienerschnitzel here, I was happy to see that in their most recent flyer, that they are now offering turkey wieners and using Foster Farms chicken franks in their corndogs. NICE! I’ve never been a fan of ‘all beef’ hot dogs, etc. HAVE been a big fan of Foster Farms for years now. Hands down, the best when it comes to corndogs.
- Reduced Fat and/or Low Salt Ruffles are the only way to go. The regular Ruffles blow me away with all the salt. Sodium overload.
- I purchased my first head of hydroponic lettuce, and let me tell you, I will NEVER go back. Seriously, it’s that good. I just hope I can continue to find it at the stores around here. It comes in a plastic container, so if you get the opportunity, check it out!
- Anyone been adventurous enough to try the new Limited Edition Strawberried Peanut Butter m&ms? Sounds sketchy.

• Love Life
- Check out the treasure trove I have waiting for me over at OKCupid.com. Yeah. And people wonder why I’ve given up on dating. These are my latest “matches.” The third one does drag on the weekend. Delicious. Consider me hydrophobic if these are the choices left floating in my dating pool. I’d rather stay single, thank you very much. Some things never change.

Wow, I’m so behind on your blog I won’t attempt to make all the comments I want to, BUT a friend told me the PB and Strawberry M&Ms suck. Haven’t tried them personally, tho.

Cheryl, trust me, you haven’t missed much lately. I was AWOL for about 2 weeks there. Thanks for the heads up on the m&ms. I’m not a HUGE strawberry fan anyway, so I was gonna probably pass on ‘em anyway. Bleah

Don’t forget der Wienerschnitzel in Mansfield. I dig the turkey dogs. Speaking of turkey, I love Hormel’s new Turkey Pepperoni. Sounds weird, I know, but it’s 70% less fat, not greasy and tastes the same.

N, I forget about that Wienerschnitzel, but I pass it every time on the way back from Marshall’s. I’ll have to check them out. I loved them when they were here, but I must have been in the minority. Turkey pepperoni doesn’t sound too weird to me. It’s tofu that I can’t handle. Ech

I tried OKCupid for about a week and went away with the same hydrophobic feeling, especially after the three messages from a married guy 20 years older who wanted to take me to an exhibit at the Jewish museum during one of the near-blizzards we had on the east coast. I felt like writing back, “Go shovel your driveway!” but then I just deleted my account and ran like I always do.

But that’s not why I commented! Don’t know if you caught the Handsome Men’s Club after the Oscars but it gave me a bit of a giggle.

Lynda, I never knew OKCupid was an all-around online dating service. I guess I just assumed it was gay-only because that’s where I was looking. Interesting. I hear ya though. I’ve been a ‘member’ since ’05 and have yet to have anything come of it. I think maybe I come off as too negative in my profile. I dunno. Just when I think “It must be me,” I see what’s out there and think “Maybe not.”

It’s funny you should mention the Handsome Men’s Club! I actually DID see it, though I am not a Jimmy Kimmel fan (I think I’m the only one). It was a great skit though. We were all cracking up. Soooo many cuties, then there were some that had me scratching my head and asking “Really? THAT passes for ‘handsome’ these days? Um, ok.”
