FHA Part Deux

First off, I want to point out that in my post titled ‘Fag Hags Anonymous‘ I wasn’t writing it with anyone in mind. Well, not anyone I know. The topic came about after meeting a friend of a friend and some of her fagtastic comments left me cold. I’m sure she’s nice as she can be, but you only get one chance to make a good first impression. In addition, I’m writing this to go into a little more detail about things that I only touched on in the first post.

I think the reason a lot of self-proclaimed ‘fag hags’ find it easier to befriend gay men, as opposed to a straight one, IS because they (straight/gay) are wired so differently. In addition, I think gay men and straight women have a lot more similar interests and therefore are more compatible in a lot of ways (+ no sexual pressure). I’m the first to admit that, outside of physical appearance, I’m personally mystified as to the appeal of 95% of straight men. From what I’ve seen, it’s like taking up permanent residence with a teenager. If I wanted to talk to someone in between XBOX 360 games, clean up the trail they made in the kitchen, their stray pee AROUND the toilet and/or their ode to Jackson Pollack they left on the bathroom mirror whilst brushing their teeth, I’d have just signed up to be a maid. Fag Hags Anonymous

I‘ve never cared for the term ‘fag hag.’ I’m not big on being “politically correct” and most certainly do not wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to terminology, but I’ve always felt that ‘fag hag’ was derogatory.

In addition, I’m not a big advocate of the ‘fag hag’ in general, at least personally. You’d have to ask my friends what my gay quotient is, but I’ve always contended that I’ll never live up to my gay potential. It’s just not my style. I’ve never been one to flounce about, using the ‘her/she’ pronouns to refer to another gay man and/or ‘he/him’ to refer to a lesbian.

I remember when I first came out, I went to a gay bar with some more adept gay friends and just sat back and observed. I could never follow their fast-paced conversations, as I never knew who “she” was, literally assuming they were referring to a female. (more…)

Well, here’s the freakshow that I promised you. You never know what you’ll come in contact with during excursions to the various flea markets, antique shops and thrift stores in the area.

I went to a flea market and some antique stores Saturday and found a few things I really liked (mostly photos and assorted ephemera). Here are the photos that I found. If you’d like to see larger, even MORE detailed versions, check out the ‘Vintage Photo Finds‘ set on my Flickr account. I also took plenty of weirdo photos that I’ll be posting tomorrow!

Elvis Has Left the Building

So yesterday evening I was craving yet another hamburger from Fabulous Fifties. Normally I have a hamburger or two and I’m done for a while, but for some reason I’m STILL craving burgers from this place! I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten there at least once a week for the last 4 weeks. Weird. But I digress.

When I arrived around 7, I noticed that the parking lot was unusually full. I also noticed that there were more cars than usual at the drive-thru. I thought I might have come on the same night that they have the Elvis impersonator, but then I told myself that “no, that’s on Wednesdays.” Wrong.

I walked into a rendition of ‘How Would You Like to Be‘ and the sounds of women whooping & hollering. Seriously. I glanced over and saw that the main dining area was PACKED with adoring fans (mostly women, the rest feisty seniors) and one sparkly-clad Elvis impersonator. I quickly regretted my dining choice and made my order ‘to go.’ (more…)
