As usual, I was behind in my newspaper reading, so (as usual), I picked up several, to read over lunch. I can always depend on the convenience store down the street, to have a week’s worth of old newspapers. I can also depend on the older man not charging me for out-dated papers…but the younger guy does. *sigh* Why can’t the older guy be there more often? But I digress.
This is probably, literally, old news, but have you read about our dubious governor, Rick Perry’s latest crusade (when he’s not busy blowing your tax dollars to pay the $600,000 rental fee of his home)…because he cares about you: At a pro-life rally denouncing the Roe v. Wade decision, Perry announced that he has put forth legislation that would require women seeking abortions to have a sonogram, among other procedures, with the aim of saving lives.
*S I G H* Ignorant people give me excess gas. Read the full article here…if you dare.

I used to LOVE Mad magazine (mostly the ones from the 70′s) and any other reasonable facsimiles: Cracked, Nuts, Frantic and even the short-lived Thimk. Crazy was one of those magazines. It seems like these type of magazines were more a boy thing, kinda like The Three Stooges, which girls/girlfriends/wives seem to loather, but their boyfriends/husbands seem to love. Whatever the case, I thought I’d share a few vintage (circa the 70′s) covers with you. Click here to see the top-secret BONUS cover!
The Book of Were-Wolves by Sabine Baring-Gould © 1865
Synopsis: A straightforward academic review of the literature of shape-shifting; however, starting with Chapter XI, the narrative takes a strange turn into sensationalistic ‘true crime’ case-studies of cannibals, grave desecrators, and blood fetishists, which have a tenuous connection with lycanthropy. This includes an extended treatment of the case of Giles de Rais, the notorious associate of Joan of Arc, who was convicted and executed for necrosadistic crimes.
Comments: While looking for something ‘scary’ to read, I came across this one on Amazon. Werewolves have always freaked me out, and since this was free, I figured ‘why not?’ So far, it’s holding my interest. I’m still looking for something a little more contemporary, but I also enjoy reading about the origins and history of certain topics, werewolves being one of them.
A General Introduction to Psycho-Analysis by Sigmund Freud © 1949
Synopsis: This book includes 28 lectures by which Freud introduces his science of psychoanalysis.
Comments: This book has been floating around the house for a while now and I keep meaning to read it, but it never seems to happen. Now that I’ve re-embraced my solitude, I have nothing but time. I’ve always found the realm of psycho-analysis and abnormal psychology very interesting. I just hope that there’s not so much psycho babble that I lose interest.
So far so good. (more…)

Since I rearranged the bedroom (read ‘put my oversized furniture up for sale at a consignment store and replaced it with the more compatible, smaller furniture that’s been in storage’), I’ve been listening to the classical radio station a lot. I’ll explain:
I temporarily have no bed “system”; my mattress/boxsprings are on the floor until I get the headboard I bought sanded/re-stained. In addition, I have a new piece of furniture (read ‘new to me’) where the bed used to be, that I wanted to refer to as a “lowboy”, but after looking it up, I now have no idea what it would be considered.
I’ll take a picture and show you later. (more…)
