The Lost Library: Gay Fiction Rediscovered by Tom Cardamone © 2010
Synopsis: Appreciations by 28 contemporary writers of significant books now out of print — on the gay experience during the 20th century. Includes an essay on reprints of gay literature by Philip Clark. With a dramatic cover illustration by Mel Odom.
Comments: Gay fiction is kinda scarce it seems. At least that’s been my experience. It seemed to be a little more accessible in the 90′s. I recently visited a Barnes & Noble, where they used to have a ‘Gay & Lesbian’ section. It’s now called “Women’s Studies.” whatever. ANYWAY, I looked at the two shelves it had been reduced to and 90% of it was lesbianlicious, 5% was dedicated to drag queens and/or transgender and the remaining 5% (in actuality, was more like 2%, considering there were only TWO books dedicated to the gay male; Matthew Sheppard being one of them, natch. Something for the teens to let them know “it gets better” (can you taste the sarcasm?). Naturally, there were 4-5 aisles (double sided) of “Religious Fiction” and “Christian Inspiration”, conveniently overshadowing the now defunct “Gay & Lesbian” section. I took pictures (here, here and here), it annoyed me so much.
ANYWAY, thanks to Barnes & Noble, I just ordered this via Amazon and I’m looking forward to receiving it. Hopefully it’ll be a little less gay porn than my last read (which I mainly bought because I judged the book by its cover…and it was a cheap e-book). I mean, I get it, okay? Gay men love the sex. It dominates their every waking moment. It’s just that good. (more…)

I have satellite radio in my car, and I listen to the “Chill” station most of the time. I’ve discovered a lot of new, interesting artists, thanks to a combination of satellite radio and AppleTV’s radio stations (i.e. Soma Radio’s Groove Salad station). Well, one of the songs I recently discovered and fell in love with was a song titled What You Need by The Weeknd. However, try as I might, I was unable to locate neither the song or the group via iTunes and/or Amazon (which is sometimes the case with some of these Electronica/Chill singers/groups). BUT, I persisted and found the The Weeknd’s site, where, believe it or not, you can download the entire 9 track album…for FREE! Needless to say, I was super-excited. I really like The Weeknd’s sound, maybe you will too. If not, it’s free, so it’s not like you lost any money on an experiment. Check it out!

I remember seeing the trailer for Just Go With It, and thinking “That actually looks kinda funny.” Naturally, I waited until it came out to rent it at RedBox. I want my dollar back.
If you saw the trailer, you saw the funniest parts of the movie. I knew going in (considering it’s an Adam Sandler vehicle) that it was iffy, mainly because I’ve never been a big Sandler fan. Well, I think this one may have broken me of any future curiosity.
First off, it’s obvious that this is a post-marriage project. I say this because the entire “message” of the movie is that ‘you’re still a viable marriage candidate, even if you’re over 30 and a single mom.” It’s a message of hope for the ladehs. Its demographic may appear to be the Adam Sandler crowd, but this one’s clearly for the ladehs. (more…)

I‘m addicted to Coke. No, you’re not having an eighties flashback, I’m referring to Coca-Cola. HOWEVER, not unlike DVDs, music and books, I have a certain price range that I prefer to stay within, when it comes to actually buying Coke. Call me a hopeless romantic, but I just don’t wanna pay over $1 for a 2-liter. Of course I have, but I don’t want to.
Well, my cheap ass found 2 liters of Coke (and other Coke-related drinks) on sale (with you have a CVS ‘reward card’; FREE) at CVS for a mere 79¢. YES! So, go stock up while you can…unless you’re one of those goody-two-shoes who doesn’t drink “carbonated beverages.” If so, that’s ok. I’m one of those goody-two-shoes that isn’t a huge fan of coffee and/or alcohol. Meh
However, if you’re a Coke monkey like me, this post is for you!
A friend of mine recently posted this article on Facebook. I loved it so much I felt compelled to share. It’s (the article) about some dipshit who, though warned THREE times, continued to text during a movie at the Alamo Draft House in Austin. Ignorant, selfish, immature retards with zero awareness of those around them, are precisely the reason I only go to the movies during school hours, and/or EARLY, because, let’s face it, these type of lazy assholes aren’t gonna be awake until after 12.
If only ALL businesses looked out for their customers, like this one did. Alas, the majority of businesses (especially corporate-ran ones) are more interested in keeping that one dumbass who thinks the rules don’t apply to them, therefore exercising the ‘squeaky wheel’ defense, than the GOOD patrons. I’ve never understood what that was about. Well, I guess we know what it’s really about: $. Of course, if the people who run the corporations ever actually had to work, hands-on, with the public, for any length of time, they might change their tune. I somehow doubt it though. Once a robot, always a robot.

About a week ago, a friend of a friend went missing. And even though I don’t know the woman who has gone missing, I’ve been following my friend’s posts (re: her missing friend) on Facebook. The missing woman is a mother of three and I got the impression that she was no longer with the father. Regardless, my first reaction was “It’s the husband”, because let’s face it, it usually is in situations like this. Either the husband or someone the missing person knows. Random abductions are rarely an option anymore, especially when it comes to women with children. Unfortunately, it’s become all too common. (more…)
Had a fuckin’ awful “lunch” with the parent on Friday (details later in the week), so to placate myself, I did some long overdue retail therapy. Here’s what I picked up:

• New issue of Hi-Fructose magazine
• Hamarikyu Gardens “perfume” from Anthropologie: Okay, it’s technically a perfume, but it’s very crisp and clean, and I like it, so I bought it. To give you an idea of what it smells like, it’s “green tea-inspired, featuring sweetened lemon and bergamot zest, verbena and the softest amber.” I’m normally not a big “scent” advocate, but occasionally I run across something that smells so good that I want to purchase it. This is that good.
• Postmodernism by Christopher Butler
• Bookmarker Pens: set of 7 colors.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I picked up this cool glass perfume bottle (you know, the kind with the wand applicator that you dab behind the earlobes), also from Anthropologie, called ‘Genie Dwelling’ on their sale table for just $4 (originally priced at $32!).

I like coffee in the Fall and Winter, but I like tea year ’round. As you know, I’m a fan of clever design, kitsch, etc., so it should come as no surprise that I fell in love with each of these tea diffusers. The submarine retails around $13 (Google image search “submarine tea diffuser“). The robot retails for around $5 (Google image search “robot tea diffuser“). And last, but not least, the goldfish tea diffuser retails around $12. We actually have these where I work. It’s definitely on my list. Another runner-up (not shown) is this one here. LOVE it! Clever clever.
