As I blogged last week, I recently purchased Whole Foods brand (365) of frozen pizza. It looked delicious on the box and the size and the price were perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no dainty eater, but more often than not, the frozen pizzas I usually see in the frozen food dept. are WAY too big, and never fit in my freezer. I think that’s part of the reason I lean towards Totino’s, though I hear they have the highest sodium content EVER in frozen pizza history. Besides, with those other pizzas, I really only want 4 or 5 pieces, then I’m done. The rest ends up turning to stone and getting tossed in the trash. Wasteful.
The pizza I chose was a Supreme pizza: Uncured pepperoni (?), Italian sausage, Uncured Canadian bacon, bell peppers, black olives and onion. I cooked it in the over at 400ยบ for 20 minutes (I like my crust kinda crispy) on a cookie sheet. In retrospect I probably should have cooked it on the oven rack, but I’d just cleaned the oven and didn’t want to deal with laying down aluminum foil.
The toppings were top notch. The crust was kinda bland and flavorless. I didn’t care for the sauce (it tasted cheap), BUT overall, I liked it. I’d definitely buy it again, but will add my own extra cheese on top. Not the best, but ten times better than DiGiorno and MUCH better toppings than Totino’s any day. I’d recommend it. Maybe you’ll LIKE the sauce. Next time though, I’ll definitely bake it on the rack instead of a cookie sheet.
Well, I finally got around to eating the Cedarlane Burrito Grande (With Chili Verde sauce). The picture on the cover looked so damn good, that I had to try it. Plus, I love rice.
Made with an organic tortilla (like I care), Jack Cheese and Basmati Rice, it also contained zucchini, squash, corn, eggplant, bell peppers, onion and other assorted fillers. I found myself asking “why not black beans in lieu of squash, eggplant and zucchini?”
I heated it up in the microwave and it smelled SO good (I think it was the chili verde sauce). I took a bite and it was good. Not great, but palatable. As I went further, it just got blander and blander and I felt like I was just going through the motions of eating SOMETHING, because there really wasn’t a lot of flavor. The zucchini felt like more of a nuisance, on the palate, because of the skin. It interrupted what would have otherwise been a smooth transition of the other ingredients.
Overall, it was subpar. I don’t think I would buy one again. Perhaps if I’d baked it in the oven or added my own hot sauce, but I still think I’d just be tasting the hot sauce. since there isn’t much flavor going on here. Pass. I unfortunately bought one of their chicken burritos around the same time. I’ll review that once I’ve tried it.

Source Code- As you know, I love me some Jake Gyllenhaal. He could be in a remake of Ishtar and I’d watch it. He’s just man-pretty. And the bod is rockin’. But I digress.
First, a synopsis of the film: An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.
I knew that the film was going to make use of the whole ‘Groundhog Day‘ scenario (re-living the exact same moment in time, repeatedly). What I didn’t expect was to get frustrated with it so quickly. Just when I was about to throw in the towel and say “fuck this, let’s forward through this bitch”, it started going somewhere. I can’t exactly say that I got sucked in after that, but it was interesting (and did I mention how pretty Jake is?). I liked the concept and I liked the cast, heck I even liked the ending, but I don’t think this would be one I’d add to my DVD library, Jake or not. For me, it was definitely a one-time thing, but worth a rental. (more…)
