Grindr: Cute- Part 1

Filed under: Guys Gone Filed, Life

Yes! Finally! It’s not all doom and gloom out there. The upside is that there ARE cute guys out there. The downside…they’re all infants (by comparison). OR, worse yet, they’ve become accustomed to coasting through life on their looks and they live in their own self-centered little world; AKA The Handsome Bubble.

I’ve broken The Cutes into 2 installments. Enjoy part one: (more…)

Grindr: Freaks

Filed under: Guys Gone Filed, Life

Okay, okay. Maybe ‘Freaks’ is a little harsh. Let’s just say ‘Weirdos’ and keep it at that. As weird as it may sound, I take into consideration the BACKGROUNDS in photos, more than the person. At least at first. These, as far as I’m concerned, are red flags:

- Photo taken in a public restroom
- Faceless, shirtless torsos (closet cases or married…to a woman)
- Bars; this includes holding an alcoholic beverage ANYWHERE
- Cheap apartments, bad decor/artwork, etc.
- Hotel/motel rooms
- Work cubicle
- Gym
- Gay cruise, parade, event

So, here they are. Hope you’re not prone to nightmares. (more…)

Grindr: Body Beautiful…Head Empty
September 15, 2011, 6:00 am
Filed under: Guys Gone Filed, Life

Ah, the bodies fantasies are made of…the faces that made the body necessary. Yes, these guys definitely have what it takes to be successful in the gay dating world. I recently watched a (godawful!) documentary called The Adonis Factor, which was about the perpetuation of physical appearance in the gay subculture. Well, actually I didn’t finish it, it was that bad. Anyway, most of the males interviewed agreed that when it came to dating (read ‘sex’) in the gay scene, that a body was more important than a face. I can see that. No, really. Bodies ARE hot. These guys’ bodies are NICE. Who wouldn’t prefer to be in bed with a hardbody? BUT…eventually you have to interact with this person. And personally, with so much attention being devoted to the outside, I seriously doubt there’s much going on, on the inside. Let’s face it, you can only talk so much about protein powders and “supplement” cycles. (more…)

Amityville Revisited

The other day, after waking from a nap, it had already gotten dark outside, so I woke up to a dark house. As I left the bedroom, making my way to the living room, I heard a ‘zzzt!’ sound coming from the wall pocket in the hallway, where I keep books, a perpetually lit lamp and a few plants. At first I thought I was hearing things, so I paused and scrutinized the area from which I thought the sound had emanated from. Long pause. Nothing. I went to the living room to turn on some lamps. Grindr: Fruits

I know, I know. “Naughty Girls Need Love Too.” Yes, I get it. And yes, I realize that you may find it ironic that I’m ‘betraying’ “my own people.” Believe me when I say: they never were. I think I can safely say that I’m not the only gay man that feels this way. And herein lies one of the primary problems (on SO many levels) that gay MEN have when it comes to dating in the gay subculture (I refuse to refer to it as a ‘community’. It’s anything but!); it is SO hard to strike a happy medium. Either gay men are ‘butch’ or ‘fem.’ I like to think I’ve struck a happy medium, but then I’m sure if you asked one of the extremes, they’d categorize you as one or the other. It’s easier that way. Otherwise, they have no idea how to relate to you on a personal level. (more…)

Grindr: “Ageless”

Filed under: Guys Gone Filed, Life

Back by popular demand (not really, but that makes my blog sound super-popular), today officially kicks off Grindr Week(s)! I told you there was LOADS of fodder there, and here’s day one’s proof. I’ve broken the installments into 7 categories:

• “Ageless” • Fruits • Bodies • Freaks • Cute • Profiles (more…)

Martha Stewart Living- Halloween 2011
Psychology Today- October 2011
Women’s Day- Halloween 2011
Comments: I LOVE magazines, but it seems like over the years I buy fewer and fewer of them. Not so much because I’m one of those people that feels that they’re becoming ‘obsolete’ because of the abundance of e-magazines; “e”- where everything seems to be going these days. Sorry, I’m still not a convert. Sure, I have a few ‘virtual’ copies of magazines on the ol’ iPad, but personally, I’m still one of those people who’s still in love with tangibility, whether it be music, movies or the written word.

With that said, I still buy the occasional magazine that catches my interest, and I’m a sucker for the Halloween issues of magazines. Even though I most-likely won’t make most of the creepy recipes, costumes and/or decor, I still enjoy looking at it and reading about it. It’s exciting to see some of the new ideas and how they were executed. My favorite thing about the Martha Stewart magazines is that they include templates that you can copy right from the book. Nice! I also love the recipe ideas of Women’s Day. As for Psychology Today, it just makes for an interesting read. Always. (more…)

I’m Not High, But…

More recent fleeting thoughts…

While leaving the parking lot of the grocery store, I see THE perfect parking space, right up front, EMPTY. And as I’m leaving, I still think, for a brief moment: “That makes me want to park there…even though I’ve already bought my groceries…what’s THAT about?” *pause* “It’s about Winning, Kirk. It’s about Winning.”

On the drive home, there is a Mexican guy mowing the grass near the curb’s edge, facing the road. He needs to get around a street sign, but pauses for me to drive by first. My interior dialogue kicks in, and in a heavy Spanish accent, I say “Don’t heet me! Donnn’t heet me!” To which I reply “But I WANT to heet you!” to which he replies “Noooawww!”*

* “No” said in a Spanish accent.

Basil Pasta Salad

12 ounces pasta (bow tie shown)
5 tablespoons butter (divided use)
1 teaspoon garlic, freshly chopped
1 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
1 1/4 finely grated cups parmesan cheese
2/3 cup finely grated Pecorino
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh basil

Bring water to boil in a large saucepan. Add pasta and cook, stirring occasionally until almost cooked. Drain reserving 3/4 cup cooked water.
Melt 2 tablespoons butter. Add pepper and cook until toasted, about 1 minute. Add water to skillet and bring to a simmer. Add pasta and remaining butter. Reduce heat and add cheese. Place in serving bowls and top with basil. Serves 4.

I came across this recipe in the newspaper a few weeks ago and tried it out because it was so simple. It turned out really well. I realize the accompanying photo doesn’t exactly match up with the ingredients, but it was as close as I could get. The recipe is already gone from the newspaper archives and I didn’t have the forethought to photograph the one I made. Enjoy!

3 Things…

Kerbey Lane Cafe Pumpkin Pancake Mix
Comments: These normally sell for $5 a pkg, but I found them at my favorite discount grocery store for just 59¢ (2 for $1)!!
Rader Farms frozen strawberry fruit cup
Comments: These caught my eye at the local Kroger recently. They are in the frozen food section and are just $1.39 apiece. They also come in blueberry. Perfect for me, since fruit and veggies seem to spoil before I can use them all. Also perfect to pack in a lunch!
Giovanni Cucumber Song body lotion
Comments: First off, I am not a big lotion fan. I never have been. However, I’ve been thinking about my hands lately, since they seem to get so dry in the store environment I work in. So, I splurged (it’s $10 a bottle!) and bought this because I’ve been wanting it for a while, but couldn’t bring myself to spend so much on something frivolous. I finally convinced myself by telling myself “pretend it’s your birthday.” LOL! The things I’ll do to justify a purchase. Plus, it smells SO amazing and I like the fact that a fine stream of it comes out, instead of the usual glop. Nice.
