With the recent passing of the great Etta James, I thought I would share this little treasure with you. The lyrics were written by James (in ’62) and her voice was sampled for the song as well. Not unlike buildings, I love it when things can be upcycled and made into something beautiful, instead of tearing the original apart. R.I.P. Etta.

I came home from work the other day and found a piece of mail in my mailbox that looked suspicious. It could’ve been a bill, but it LOOKED like it contained a check, so my second thought was that it was one of those loan gimmick things, where once you cash/sign the check, you’ve accepted the loan, with an APR of 30% or something nuts like that. Well, believe it or not, it turned out to be a refund check from Out! Puppy Pads! Yes! And it only took them a month and 2 weeks to get it out to me (I sent it out the week of Christmas…they’re headquarters are in Dallas, 20 minutes away). Woo hoo!
For those that didn’t know, I bought their brand of puppy pads back in November, during a brief stint of insanity, whilst at Wal-Mart. They were $3 cheaper than the ones I normally buy at PetSmart and were made locally. Needless to say, they did NOT work, so I took their “100% Leak-Proof Guarantee” and ran with it. I wasn’t about to kiss $12.72 goodbye.

Okay, I’ve had a Pinterest account for a while now, but until recently it was just a passing fancy that I would randomly check in on whenever I thought about it. HOWEVER, with everyone at work talking about it, I decided to play with it a little more. I initially just had one folder labeled ‘Eyecandy’, that I pinned everything into. Then everyone was telling me that THEY had theirs categorized by folder…so I created MORE folders and got organized. Then I added a few more pins, as I thought of things…then I saw some things others had pinned and I ‘repinned’ those…then I lost all control and now it is consuming my every waking moment!! LOL! But seriously, it is deliciously wicked (that sounded super-queer, didn’t it? I just heard it in my mind and thought “God, Kirk, that sounds so fruity”). It’s true though! ‘Delicious’ in the sense that I LOVE imagery and ‘wicked’ in the sense that it consumes me for hours at a time, as I think of more and more things. (more…)

• Yoberry Pineapple Froyo
Comment: There is a frozen yogurt place down the street from me, called YoBerry. I love them. They normally have 15-20 different flavors that change over time; some stay, some change. My favorite used to be the Pineapple Tart, but the Angel Food Cake is really good too. They got rid of the Pineapple Tart and replaced it with just plain Pineapple. OMG, I’m in love. I think I like it even better than the tart. Soooo good. Soooo cheap. Delicious! (more…)

Abduction- Okay, before I get too far along with this brief review, you already know, that I only rented this because me likee the Taylor Lautner. It sure wasn’t because the movie looked good. And although I like the package he comes wrapped in, I must admit that I too got wrapped up in the Twilight hype when he returned with a rockin’ bod…then I saw said film he returned for and my interest quickly waned. It was cringeworthy. I assumed it was the material…now I’m thinking it’s the messenger (shoot him already). Don’t get me wrong, Lautner is still pretty, but that’s about it. There are lots of pretty packages out there. Too bad most of them are empty when you shake ‘em.
Synopsis: A thriller centered on a young man who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website.
Now before I do MY review, here is a link to a hilariously accurate one that I read online. It’s considerably more brutal, but nonetheless honest. My review will be nowhere near this entertaining, so I’ll leave it up to you if you want to read it now or later.

First off, I had to share with you the funniest thing about a box of Girl Scout cookies:

“Use or freeze before Sept. 2012″ Hilarious! Like those bitches are gonna make it till the end of the week.

Secondly, while we’re on the subject of Girl Scouts, I gotta chime in with my 2¢ about this recent hubbub about the whole “transgender” child whose mother basically bullied his/her way into a club that was initially exclusively female.
For those unfamiliar with the story, you can read about it here. That’ll save me time doing the whole exposition thing. (more…)

A few weeks ago I visited one of my favorite stores: Hong Kong Supermarket. I love going there because I LOVE looking at just about everything, especially the packaging design; it’s all so colorful and fun. I stocked up on my favorite Japanese udon noodles (like Ramen, but better!) and cappuccino pocky (Japanese snack cookie) and even bought some new rice bowls with koi on them and a package of orange plastic chopsticks. As always, I brought my camera and snapped a few photos as well. (more…)
